Welcome to the multimedia repository of the Netherlands Biodiversity Information Facility (NLBIF)

The Netherlands Biodiversity Information Facility (NLBIF) is the Dutch branch of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), a world-wide network of countries and organisations providing free and open access to biodiversity data. NLBIF's main mission is to mobilise primary biodiversity data, data on species occurrences accommodated in natural history collections, datasets with observational data and data captured in species checklists.

This multimedia repository offers NLBIF data providers the ability to host multimedia resources such as images of museum specimens, (gray) literature files, maps, sounds and moving images next to their primary biodiversity data. The ability to browse the multimedia resources housed in the repository’s collections allows data users to have access to a wider variety of quality content. The application of consistent Dublin/Darwin Core standards to all uploaded data facilitates the exchange and integration of biodiversity information.

The repository is built using DSpace (an open source software specifically created to manage and preserve digital content), fully linked to biodiversity data in GBIF and equipped to disseminate quality information on biodiversity to the scientific community as well as the public.
